UConn falls in OT in Hockey East final

Aaron Bohlinger scored the game-winning goal at 3:06 of overtime and Matt Murray had 19 saves to lead UMass to a 2-1 win over UConn in the 37th annual Hockey East Championsh­ip game on Saturday at TD Garden in Boston.

The fourth-seeded Huskies, in their ninth season in Hockey East, were making their first appearance in the conference title game.

Darion Hanson had 10 saves for the Huskies in the first period to keep the game scoreless. UMass, seeded second, dominated the offensive end and outshot the Huskies 10-3 in the period.

Vladislov Firstov eventually got the Huskies on the scoreboard with a goal at 2:25 of the second period for a 1-0 lead. Before Saturday, UConn was 8-0 when Firstov

scored a goal this season

Bobby Trivigno answered for UMass (22-12-2) at 16:06 of the second period to tie the game at 1, a goal that would send the game into overtime after a scoreless third period. UMass outshot UConn 7-2 in the period.

Hanson had 31 saves for UConn (20-16).

HARVARD 3, QUINNIPIAC 2 (OT)

Matthew Coronato scored the game-wining goal at 9:18 of overtime and Mitchell Gibson had 47 saves to lead Harvard to a 3-2 win over Quinnipiac in the ECAC Hockey Championsh­ip game at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y..

Harvard (21-10-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first period on an even strength goal by Ryan Siedem at 1:07. The Bobcats responded when

T.J. Friedmann scored at 5:54 of the first period to tie the game at 1.

The Crimson produced the only goal of the second period when Ian Moore scored on the power play at 9:11 for a 2-1 lead.

With time winding down, Jayden Lee got the equalizer for the Bobcats in the third period. Lee scored a powerplay goal at 13:44 to tie the game at 2 and send the game into overtime.

Yaniv Perets had 17 saves for Quinnipiac (31-6-3).

Third-seeded Harvard was in the ECAC Hockey Championsh­ip game for the first time since 2017, and the 22nd time in program history. Harvard is 11-11 all time in the conference title game.

Top-seeded Quinnipiac advanced to the ECAC Hockey Championsh­ip game for the secondstra­ight season and fourth time since 2007.
