Robert F. Tynan

Robert F. Tynan, 91, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2022, at his home in Monroe, CT.

Bob, as he was known to his family and friends, was born and raised in Staten Island, NY. As a teenager, he was treasurer of the ‘Orange Avenue Boys,’ a group of local youth who collected over a half ton of newspapers to support the war effort and raise funds for charity. He attended Port Richmond High School, along with his future wife Eleanor Hansen, where he was an honor student and ran cross country track. Bob enlisted in the Army in 1948 and trained as a tank commander.

In 1953, he and Eleanor were married, and they had two children. He earned his MBA from Wagner College in 1965. Bob began his professional career at Dun & Bradstreet and then spent decades at the Singer Company as a financial systems manager. In 1978, he and his family relocated to Trumbull, CT. Later in his career, he operated a wholesale business distributing Barnett spices and also attained his real estate license. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Teresa’s Church in Trumbull and previously Blessed Sacrament Church in Staten Island.

In 1997, Bob and his wife retired to Southport, NC where they lived for a decade before returning to CT in 2007 due to her declining health. They were married for 56 years before her passing in 2009.

Bob loved the sea, enjoyed boating and spending summers in Seaside Heights, NJ and Cape Hatteras, NC with his family. He delighted in watching football, appreciated big band music, jazz, art and researching history and family genealogy, remaining inquisitive throughout his life. He savored spicy food, finding a rare bargain, and being true to his Irish heritage, Bob relished a witty joke especially when accompanied by a nice cold beer.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents Edward and Ruby, and older brother Edward.

He is survived by his loving family, daughter Marianne Tynan of Friday Harbor, WA; son Robert F. Tynan Jr. and his wife Jacqueline of Monroe, CT; and two grandchildren Megan and Emily Tynan.
