John F. Fitzsimmons

John Francis Fitzsimmons, age 86, of Stratford, beloved husband of Rita Carten Fitzsimmons, passed away peacefully in his home on October 12, 2022. John was born in Bridgeport on December 6, 1935, to the late James and Julia (Gallagher) Fitzsimmons. John was a lifelong Stratford resident who enjoyed spending time in Southwest Florida. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War where he served in the Submarine Service. John was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport and was retired from the Southern Connecticut Gas Company, where he was the Director of Gas Supply and active with the Society of Gas Operators, Northeast Gas Association, American Gas Association, National Fire Protection and as well as the Connecticut Fire Chiefs Association. He was a longtime member and past president of the Stratford Rotary Club. John enjoyed traveling throughout North America and Europe with his family. John was a jack of all trades and completed many impressive home improvement projects. John’s interests included current events, fishing, and technology. Some of his favorite times were spent in the company of his grandchildren as they enjoyed holidays, concerts, family dinners, and sporting events. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 64 years, include his devoted sons, Tim Fitzsimmons and his wife Bernadette of Gaithersburg, Maryland, John Fitzsimmons and his wife

Patty of Trumbull, and Dan Fitzsimmons of Monroe; 6 cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Thomas, Juliana, Lauren, Kathryn, and Brian; sisters, Maryann Weenan of Florida and Helen Filo of Connecticut and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family may visit on Monday, October 17th from 4-7 p.m.at the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 18th at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Mark Church 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Interment with full military honors will be in Union Cemetery, Stratford.
