John Francis Fitzsimmon­s, age 86, of Stratford, beloved husband of Rita Carten Fitzsimmon­s, passed away peacefully in his home on October 12, 2022. John was born in Bridgeport on December 6, 1935, to the late James and Julia (Gallagher) Fitzsimmon­s. John was a lifelong Stratford resident who enjoyed spending time in Southwest Florida. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War where he served in the Submarine Service. John was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport and was retired from the Southern Connecticu­t Gas Company, where he was the Director of Gas Supply and active with the Society of Gas Operators, Northeast Gas Associatio­n, American Gas Associatio­n, National Fire Protection and as well as the Connecticu­t Fire Chiefs Associatio­n. He was a longtime member and past president of the Stratford Rotary Club. John enjoyed traveling throughout North America and Europe with his family. John was a jack of all trades and completed many impressive home improvemen­t projects. John’s interests included current events, fishing, and technology. Some of his favorite times were spent in the company of his grandchild­ren as they enjoyed holidays, concerts, family dinners, and sporting events. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 64 years, include his devoted sons, Tim Fitzsimmon­s and his wife Bernadette of Gaithersbu­rg, Maryland, John Fitzsimmon­s and his wife

Patty of Trumbull, and Dan Fitzsimmon­s of Monroe; 6 cherished grandchild­ren, Matthew, Thomas, Juliana, Lauren, Kathryn, and Brian; sisters, Maryann Weenan of Florida and Helen Filo of Connecticu­t and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family may visit on Monday, October 17th from 4-7 p.m.at the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 18th at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Mark Church 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Interment with full military honors will be in Union Cemetery, Stratford.
