The Southern Connecticut Conference boys and girls basketball tournament championship games are returning to Quinnipiac University.

The M&T Bank Arena at Quinnipiac will host the girls final on Feb. 22 and the boys final on March 1. It’s the first time the girls final is being held at Quinnipiac since 2015, the boys since 2017.

“They treat us very well, it’s a great location, a great arena and I think our boys and girls basketball leagues have been really competitive. Quite a few teams have a chance to get there,” SCC commissioner Al Carbone said. “I was happy when our league administrators had such a positive reaction when I brought up the subject going back there (before the season started).”

The SCC girls tournament begins Feb. 16 at the site of the higher seeds. Sheehan is hosting the quarterfinals on Feb. 18 and Jonathan Law the semifinals on Feb. 20. The boys tournament begins Feb. 23 at the higher seeds, followed by the quarterfinals at Shelton on Feb. 25 and the semifinals at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Both the boys and girls finals were held at Quinnipiac from 2010-15. Two years later, the SCC brought back the boys final to Quinnipiac in what ended up being a game for the ages.

Notre Dame-West Haven, featuring Tremont Waters, and Hillhouse squared off for the first time that season in front of a sellout crowd of 3,421 — at the time only the second sellout in the history of the arena. It sold out three hours before tip and tickets were literally being scalped outside TD Bank.

“We’ve had great matchups before; we’ve had sellouts before,” Carbone told GameTimeCT at the time. “But nothing compares. This is the most anticipated event in the 23year history of our league.”

The game lived up to the hype. Hillhouse defeated Notre Dame-West Haven 70-62. The Academics went on to win the Class LL state championship.
