Cops make 2nd arrest in 1993 Bridgeport murder
BRIDGEPORT — For 27 years, the 1993 killing of Theodore “Teddy” Edwards, a popular 77-yearold man found dead at the Duchess restaurant on Boston Avenue, went unsolved.
This week, police made two arrests in the case.
One day after making their first arrest, Bridgeport police announced the arrest of a second man, Breeze Brown — who also goes by Eric Brown — for his alleged involvement in the killing.
Brown, 46, faces a felony murder charge and is being held in lieu of $1 million bond, according to police.
The announcement came less than 24 hours after authorities announced the arrest of another man, 44-year-old Danarius Dukes, of Stamford, on charges of murder and felony murder.
That arrest was the result of a collaboration between Bridgeport police, State’s Attorney Joseph Corradino, Senior Assistant State’s Attorney David Applegate and federal prosecutor Rahul Kale, police Lt. Christopher LaMaine said.
“It’s taken 27 years, but I’m happy we have finally been able to bring some sense of closure to Mr. Edward’s family,” LaMaine said.
Police said it was only by chance that Dukes was picked up in Stamford.
Stamford police Capt. Richard Conklin said that officers Kevin Becroft and Tom Landry were on patrol in Stamford Thursday when at 6:15 p.m. they were dispatched to South State and Canal streets for a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles.
Becroft and Landry discovered that one of the operators was Dukes, who had a valid warrant out Bridgeport for his arrest in the murder. The officers confirmed the warrant, took Dukes into custody and transported him to Stamford police headquarters where he was later picked up by Bridgeport police.
Over the past several decades, new leads occasionally renewed investigative efforts into the case.
But the investigation always hit dead ends — until now.
The recent arrests are the result of a yearlong investigation, according to police.
