Stratford man charged in mother’s homicide
Police did not reveal motive for stabbing
STRATFORD — Police said a local man stabbed his mother to death in their home Friday morning.
Thomas Walker, 31, of Stratford was charged with murder Friday afternoon. He was being held in lieu of $1 million bond pending arraignment in Superior Court on Monday.
Police units remained on scene at a residence at the Stonybrook Gardens Co-op on Baird Court, processing the scene for several hours on Friday searching for the murder weapon.
“It was an isolated incident, there was no danger to the community,” said Police Capt. Frank Eannotti.
Police said Walker walked to the Police Department and told officers he was making a report of finding a dead body. They said he had blood on his clothing.
Officers then went to his Baird Court address where they found his mother’s body, police said.
Police did not reveal a motive for the stabbing.
Baird Court is a small dead-end street off Success Avenue with about a dozen small ranch-style duplexes with neat hedges and small gardens.
Neighbors described it as a very quiet community.
But Friday morning, many of them said they awoke to hear a woman screaming.
Richard James Larsen said he was doing maintenance work on one of the houses on the street when neighbors told him a woman was screaming in one of the homes.
“I don’t know what happened, she (the victim) seemed like such a nice person, it’s just so sad,” Larsen said Friday.
According to property records, the one-bedroom home was purchased six months ago. Neighbors said an elderly woman and her adult son had only recently moved into the home.
“She (the woman) was very social and very nice, she threw a cookout right after they moved in,” said one woman, who did not want her name used. “She was so excited and couldn’t wait to fix up the home the way she wanted it.”
Local police cordoned of an area around the home and a state trooper with a bloodhound searched the yard for evidence.
