Stratford High staff member tests positive for COVID-19

STRATFORD — A staff member at Stratford High School has tested positive for COVID-19, but officials say they believe no other staff or students were exposed while the person was contagious.

In a letter to parents, Superintendent Janet Robinson said the school district was notified about the positive test Tuesday.

The person who tested positive has been told to stay home in isolation for 10 days “and has been provided with additional instructions to follow prior to returning to school,” the superintendent wrote.

“The last day this person was present with our school community was Sept. 17,” Robinson said. “Through contact tracing, it was determined that no other staff or students were exposed to this member during their infectious/contagious period.”

The superintendent shared a list of preventative measures for students and staff and reminded anyone who is feeling ill to stay home and report their symptoms to a medical provider.

The superintendent’s letter included a link to an advisory from state officials about what to do if a student or family member has possible coronavirus symptoms.

“We are working with the Stratford Public Health Department and will provide you with any necessary updates,” Robinson said.

Last week, Second Hill Lane Elementary School went to all distance learning for two days after staff member there had a suspected case of COVID-19, but the school reopened after the staff member tested negative.

“We shifted to distance learning for the beginning of this week out of an abundance of caution, and we appreciate your patience as we have worked to make an informed decision regarding our re-entry to school following this brief closure,” Principal Daniel Hicks wrote in a letter to parents. “As always, we are keeping the safety of our students and staff at the forefront of all decision-making.”
