Girls swimming top performers
Morgan Bagnall, Lauralton Hall: Bagnall finished first in two individual events for Lauralton Hall, which defeated Jonathan Law, 101-72. She won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 17.37 seconds, then placed first in the 500-yard freestyle event (5:12.26). Bagnall anchored the team’s winning 200 freestyle relay, which posted a time of 1:47.43.
Maddie Bergin, North Haven: Bergin raced to a school record in the 100-yard butterfly in North Haven’s 98-77 triumph over Daniel Hand, clocking in at 59.07 seconds. The senior also finished first in the 50 freestyle (:23.95) and anchored the team’s winning 200 medley relay. Against Cheshire, Bergin competed in 200yard freestyle (1:53.92) and 100 freestyle (53.12), winning both events.
Nora Bergstrom, Cheshire: Bergstrom won two individual events (200yard individual medley, (2:15.53, 100 backstroke, 1:02.29) and led off the Rams’ winning 200 medley relay in the Rams’ 95.5-86.5 victory over North Haven. Against Daniel Hand, a 92-83 Cheshire triumph, Bergstrom was the 200 freestyle (1:57.45) and 500 freestyle (5:16.24) winner.
Zoe Baker, Hall: Baker, a senior, placed first on the 1-meter diving board for Hall, which posted a 93-85 win vs. Conard.
Natalie DeMatteo, Cheshire: DeMatteo amassed a first-place total of 246.60 points over six rounds of diving for the Rams in their competition vs. North Haven.
Charlotte Frank, New Canaan: Impressively executing her dives, Frank, a senior won the event for the Rams in their competition vs. Greenwich, totaling 248.63 points.
Payton Foster, Greenwich: Foster began her freshman season in style, winning the 100-yard freestyle (54.45) and 200 freestyle (1:54.59 in the Cards’ win over Westhill/Stamford. Foster posted first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke (59.71) in Greenwich’s meet against New Canaan.
McKenna Hayes, Seymour: The junior won two individual events for the Wildcats in their triumph against
Naugatuck, finishing first in the 200yard freestyle (2:03.86) and the 100yard breaststroke (1:15.40). She was also part of Seymour’s first-place 200 freestyle relay squad, which combined for a time of 1:54.21.
Claire Kehley, Lauralton Hall: Lauralton Hall’s season-opening victory over Jonathan Law saw Kehley, a junior, win both the 100-yard freestyle race (57.32) and 200 freestyle (2:02.37).
Riley Jooss, North Haven: Jooss, a senior, posted firstplace finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:04.61) and the 100 freestyle (57.65) in the team’s competition against Daniel Hand. She also was the 500 freestyle winner against Cheshire.
Meghan Lynch, Greenwich: Lynch broke a school record in the 500-yard freestyle in the Cardinals’ season-opener against Westhill/ Stamford. She registered a time of 4:52 .25 in the 500 freestyle, breaking Keira Heath’s 200 record in the event (4:5 5.44). Also in the meet, Lynch tied a school record in the 50-yard freestyle, racing to a time of 23.89 seconds. In Greenwich’s 104-59 victor y over visiting New Canaan, Lynch won both the 200 IM (2:06.98), the 100 freestyle (52.58) and was part of the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Sophie Murphy, Cheshire: A senior, Murphy raced to first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (:24.32) and 100 freestyle (54.29) for Cheshire in its 93-88 victory over Amity.
Emma Nordquist, Hall: Hall’s senior captain took top honors in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.57) and 500yard freestyle (5:31.90) in the team’s meet vs. Conard. She anchored the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay, which finished first.
Katie O’Connor, Amity: O’Connor’s time of 1:00.34 in the 100-yard butterfly was good for first place for Amity in its 99-79 victory over Hamden. The junior led off Amity’s 200 freestyle relay, which recorded a firstplace time of 1:45.55. She also won the 200 IM in the team’s 94-83 win against
Mercy and was part of the victorious 200 medley relay.
Katrine O’Leary, Seymour: O’Leary, a sophomore, won the 50-yard freestyle (25.08) and 100 freestyle (57.08) in Seymour’s 95-75 victory against Naugatuck. She also competed on the team’s winning 200 medley relay (2:00.53).
Elisia Pagliuca, Mercy: The senior touched the wall first in the 200 individual medley (2:22.21) against Hamden, then won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.99. She anchored Mercy’s first-place 400 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay, which also took first.
Emma Panaroni, Hamden: Panaroni registered winning performances in the 100-yard freestyle (56.95) and 100 backstroke (1:03.47) events for Hamden vs. Mercy. A senior, Panaroni also won the 200 freestyle in Hamden’s competition against Amity, clocking in at 2:05.24 and anchored the first-place 400 freestyle relay.
Makenna Sharpe, Jonathan Law: Sharpe put her name in the program’s record books, breaking the school’s diving record in the team’s seasonopener against Lauralton Hall. A junior, Sharpe totaled 242.70 points on the 1-meter board.
Meghan Tiernan, Hall: Tiernan was the 200-yard individual medley winner (2:15.88) for Hall against Conard and contributed to the team’s 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay, which had first-place finishes.
Sophia Velleco, Seymour: In the Wildcats’ triumph against Naugatuck, Velleco, a sophomore, had first-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.96) and 100 backstroke (1:01.90). She led off the winning 200 medley relay race and was part of the 400 freestyle relay squad, which also placed first.
Amanda Wojenski, Hamden: The junior earned winning efforts in the 50-yard freestyle (26.10) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.61) in Hamden’s matchup against Mercy. In the team’s meet against Amity, she topped the competition in the 50 freestyle (25.58) and the 100 freestyle (56.46).
