BRIDGEPORT — A 43-year-old city man was arrested Thursday in connection with a shooting at a Pequonnock Street barber shop that left one person dead and another wounded in October, police said.

Tavares Jefferson, of Lee Avenue, was charged with murder, criminal attempt at murder, firstdegree assault, first-degree criminal attempt at assault, commission of a felony with a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Jefferson is being held on a $ 1 million bond pending his arraignment in court.

“The arrest of Jefferson was a collaborative effort, involving several investigators from the Bridgeport Police Department and Connecticut State Police, with the assistance of the State’s Attorney’s Office,” Bridgeport police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald said. “As a result, Detective ( Jorge) Cintron was able to secure a warrant for the arrest of Jefferson, and an individual who was a threat to public safety was taken off the street. All involved should be recognized for their efforts.”

On Oct. 2, Jamain Allen, 40, was shot and killed at Quick Stop barber shop on Pequonnock Street, police said.

A gunman entered the barber shop around 8 p.m. and fired at workers and patrons inside, police said.

Allen was found in the lot next to the barber shop with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A second employee of the barber shop was also shot in the arm and survived, police said.
