Nancy L. Whiteley, age 73, of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest on Sunday, December 6, 2020 in her home with family present. She is the beloved wife of 51 years of Richard M. Whiteley. Nancy was born in Boston, MA on July 10, 1947, daughter of the late Richard and Victoria (DeAngelis) Nielsen, and lived in Shelton for 44 years. Nancy worked for over thirty years as a Vocational Rehabilita­tion Counselor for the State of CT, assisting people with disabiliti­es in achieving their employment goals. This was more than just a career for her, it was her passion and she put her whole heart into it. She also maintained involvemen­t in several different community organizati­ons up until her illness curtailed those activities. Nancy always put other people first and greatly enjoyed cooking and entertaini­ng family and friends. She loved gardening and growing all varieties of beautiful flowers and was a member of the Olde Ripton Garden Club. She loved modern dance and attending live rock concerts. Nancy loved the beach and vacationin­g every summer in Martha’s Vineyard. She was also an avid reader and loved literature. She loved life and possessed a sunny and sensitive personalit­y, always looking for the positives in every situation. She loved everybody and was loved by everyone. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all her family, many friends and former co-workers. We all loved her deeply. She is the beloved mother of Eric Whiteley & his wife Colleen, and Sarah Whiteley & her husband Scott. She also leaves two cherished grandchild­ren, Adrie Whiteley & newborn Lux Louise Vogel; two brothers, Carl and Richard “Skip” Nielsen; her sister Judith Ravindra, and many nieces and nephews. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic all of Nancy’s services will be held privately with her immediate family in attendance.
