Michael Blaise Lawler, 70, of Waterbury passed away peacefully on December 26, 2020 at the West Haven Veteran’s Medical Center in West Haven, CT. Mike is survived by his children, Theresa and Michael of Waterbury, his mother Grace of Pompano Beach, FL and his siblings: George Jr. of Georgetown, SC; Vincent of Naples, FL; Marlene of Coconut Creek, FL; James of Pompano Beach, FL; Deline Donnelly (Duane) of Orange, CT; Robert (Patti) of Bronx, NY and Paula Galluccio (Carlo) of Pompano Beach, FL. Michael was predecease­d by his wife, Kimberly and his father George Sr.

Mike is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews: Brian, Dina Smith (Paul), Erin (Vern Gaudet), James Donnelly, Jessica Donnelly, Christophe­r Notarnicol­a, Kate MacPhee (Kevin), Shane (Amanda Conkey), Samantha Cohen and Robert as well as an extended family of grandniece­s and nephews, aunts and cousins.

Mike was a longtime resident of Bridgeport, CT, attending St. Charles Borromeo School and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, CT. Immediatel­y after graduation, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving for a year in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor commendati­on. Mike returned home to Bridgeport after his service and worked as a self employed painter.

Mike enjoyed outdoor activities including camping, hunting and fishing as well as playing softball with the East Side Wrecking Softball Team. Mike never turned down a request from a friend which is how he became endeared to many as “Uncle” Mike. Michael will be remembered for his great spirit, the twinkle in his eye and his beaming smile.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to Voluntary Services at the Veterans Medical Center in West Haven, CT in memory of Michael Lawler or to the Disabled American Veterans Transporta­tion Program in Michael’s memory.

The family would like to thank the attentive and supportive staff of the Surgical ICU at the VA for their respectful care and concern for Mike and his family during his hospitaliz­ation.

Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, East Main St., Bridgeport, CT. Masks are required. Please practice social distancing guidelines. (The family understand­s that during this pandemic individual­s may opt not to attend; however they know that you are with them in spirit). Interment to follow in State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT with full military honors.
