Madeline Eli, 89, of Hampstead, MD, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2020 at home with her daughter, Diana McGarry, and son-in-law, Stephen McGarry, by her side.

Born on March 15, 1931 in New York City, she was the eldest daughter of the late John and Fotini Katritos. She was the cherished wife of the late Robert W. Eli who passed away in Connecticu­t in 1997.

In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by her three loving grandchild­ren, Megan McGarry, of Hampstead, Andrea McGarry of Westminste­r, and Craig McGarry (Joanne) of Eldersburg and four beloved great-grandchild­ren, Grayce, Melody, Jack and Conor. She was predecease­d by her son, Philip Theris, who died in 2010.

Also surviving are her three siblings, Harriet Isaris of Little Neck, NY, Nicholas Katritos (Elaine) of Eastport, NY, and Stella Tatarian (Edward) of Bayside, NY, along with many nieces and nephews.

Madeline became interested in art at a young age and was an award-winning painter. She attended Housatonic Community College and Silvermine Art School in Connecticu­t where she studied with well-known artists. Madeline was a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. She was a member of both the Maryland and Connecticu­t Pastel Societies. While living in Easton, MD, she was a member of the Friday Morning Artists, Talbot County Visual Arts Center, Working Artists’ Forum and numerous other art groups. She will be fondly remembered by many friends and colleagues.

Madeline was a member of St. James Orthodox Church in Taneytown, MD.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at ELINE FUNERAL HOME, 934 South Main Street, Hampstead. Interment will be in Hampstead Cemetery.
