Murder suspect on suicide watch

- By Tara O’Neill and Daniel Tepfer

BRIDGEPORT — A local man was being held on suicide watch Wednesday after police said he stabbed his brother to death in front of his three young children.

Julian Daivon Valle, 25, of Pennsylvania Avenue, was charged with murder, risk of injury to children and disorderly conduct.

During his arraignment Wednesday afternoon, Valle stared at the floor of the courthouse lockup area as Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Pamela Esposito urged Superior Court Judge Kevin Doyle to set a high bond.

“So far, the investigation leaves the state with questions on how this all happened,” Esposito told the judge.

Valle’s lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Caroline Gallucci, asked the judge for leniency on behalf of her client, pointing out that he has no prior criminal record.

Doyle ordered Valle held in lieu of $750,000 bond and continued the case to Feb. 9. The judge also issued Valle three protective orders barring him from contacting his three minor children,

At the request of Gallucci, he then ordered Valle placed on suicide watch in the corrections center.

Valle is accused of fatally stabbing his 36-year-old brother, Angel Valle, with a kitchen knife in the apartment they all shared.

It was Bridgeport’s first homicide of the year.

According to the report of Officer David Bahr, shortly before 2 a.m., police received a call of a stabbing in an apartment on Pennsylvania Avenue.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they were greeted at the front door by Valle who was covered in blood, the report states.

The report continues that officers asked Valle where his brother was and he replied, “upstairs.”

“He came in my room trying to fight me, I had my children in there,” Valle told officers, according to the report.

The report states that officers went to the second floor where they found a blood trail leading to a bedroom. Angel Valle was found lying on the bedroom floor in a pool of blood.

Julian Valle’s girlfriend told officers the defendant and his brother had gotten into a dispute, possibly over drug use, and the verbal abuse led to a fight, the report states.
