Sister Roberta Garczynska

Sister Roberta, the former Dolores Garczynska, was born in Clifton Heights, PA, on March 2, 1929 the oldest of two children born to John and Anna Garczynska. Sister attended St. Charles Elementary School before enrolling in Nazareth Academy High School in Philadelph­ia, PA. After graduating from high school, Sister Roberta entered the Congregati­on of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth on October 7, 1947.

Upon graduation from Holy Family University (Philadelph­ia), Sister Roberta went on to study Science earning a Master’s Degree in Secondary Science from Villanova University. Sister Roberta taught for many years on the Secondary School level finding herself ministerin­g to children at St. Adalbert School, Elmhurst, NY; SS. Cyril and Methodius School and St. Stanislaus Kostka School, Brooklyn, NY; Bishop Ford High School in Brooklyn; St. Stephen School, Paterson, NJ; and St. Joseph School, Ansonia, CT. However, it was at St. Mary’s School,

Worcester, MA where Sister spent 27 years as a teacher and later as a principal of the elementary school.

Sister Roberta retired from active ministry in 2004 and moved to Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent in Monroe, Connecticu­t. Though retired, Sister Roberta continued to maintain contact with her nieces, nephews and former students through letters, telephone calls and their visits to Monroe.

Sister Roberta lived with numerous health problems for many years. Days away from her 92nd birthday, Sister passed peacefully on February 22, 2021.

Sister is survived by her nephew, Joseph Garczynska of Williamsto­wn, NJ; her nieces Karen Nolan-Doug of Fruitland, MD, Terri Fauconnier­e of Mantau, NJ, Jennifer Pulaski of Runnemede, NJ and Janet Parsons of Salisbury, MD.
