-

Maida Ellen (Chopik) Mayernick, age 65, of Bridgeport, loving wife of the late Edward “Butch” Mayernick Jr., died on Thursday, February 25, 2021. Maida was born in Bridgeport to the late George and Helen Chopik. She was also predeceased by a brother, Charles Thomas Chopik.

Maida worked for the Diocese of Bridgeport for many years at St. Ambrose and St. Raphael schools. She impacted the lives of many children with her gentleness, good humor and desire to help, especially providing support to those children who were struggling. She was happily married to Butch for 43 years before his death and beat aggressive breast cancer when she was only 38. Her latest battle with pancreatic cancer lasted a year and a half, and she bravely endured many treatments for the sake of having more time with her family. Everyone who met Maida knew of her kindness and bright personality. She loved spending time with her friends and family, playing with her grandson, gardening and trips to the beach.

Survivors include her adored daughter, Jessica Forcier, and her admired son-in-law, Jared, of Milford; cherished grandson, John Forcier; her beloved sister, Merianne Halkovic and her husband, Alexander, of Beacon Falls; brother-in-law Gary Mayernick, of Stratford; sisterin-law Patricia Cejkovsky and her husband, Stephen, of Stratford; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, Maida wished that donations be made in her name to Project Purple in Seymour, a charity that supports pancreatic cancer patients. Donations may be sent to: Project Purple, 115 Main Street Suite 1, Seymour, CT 06483 or at www. projectpurple.org. Please visit www.pisteyfuneralhome.com to express condolences online.
