KEEP AN EYE ON

Big assist by Paige: Freshman Paige Bueckers posted her second 20-point, 10assist game of the season Saturday against Butler with 20 points and a school-record 14 dimes. According to Her Hoop Stats, she’s just one of two players (Iowa’s Caitlin Clark) in the country to have multiple such games in 2020-21.

Bueckers’ 130 assists are a UConn freshman record.

“That’s just always been who I am,” Bueckers said, “just a pass-first player, try to get everybody else involved.” Improvement needed on D: Butler’s 68 points were the most scored in Big East play against UConn this season. The only time the Huskies surrendered more was in their lone loss (90-87 against Arkansas on Jan. 28).

“Monday night, obviously, our defense is going to need to be a lot better than it was today,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said.

Though the Huskies allowed 14 3-pointers — a season-high — they held Butler to 36.1% shooting.

Not first, but …: Marquette locked up the second seed in the Big East Tournament in Wednesday’s 85-71 victory over DePaul. The Golden Eagles have won five straight, and are the only team in the conference to use the same starting lineup in every game. History lesson: UConn has won all 10 meetings against Marquette, including an 87-58 victory earlier this season on Feb. 5 in Milwaukee.
