Sheldon Lawrence

Sheldon (Shelly) Lawrence, age 85, passed away on March 1, 2021.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Maribeth Lawrence, his son Todd Lawrence, wife Stephanie, their two children Jake and Emma and his daughter, Melissa Reiner, husband Michael and their two daughters, Brooke and Jill.

Shelly was predeceased by his cherished parents: mother, Beatrice and father, Jules and his brother, Larry.

He is survived by his wonder- ful sister-in-law, Lois Lapidus in Rochester, NY, cherished nieces and nephews Laura and Marty Kauman of Rochester, NY and Sandra and Bob Lefcovich of Grass Valley, CA and their children.

Shelly spent the first 5 years of his life in Pittsburgh, PA and remained a faithful and avid fan of both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pirates. He and Maribeth enjoyed going back to PA to see games.

He grew up in Mt. Vernon, NY and remained lifelong close friends with his childhood buddies, Morty Usdan, Donny Brout and Bruce Slovin. Shelly received his B.A. from Cornell University and his masters from Columbia University.

After living in New York, NY, Potomac, MD and Old Greenwich, CT, Maribeth and Shelly settled in Fairfield, CT in 1986 and he was a member of Congregation Beth El in Fairfield.

Shelly volunteered as a mentor with the School Volunteer

Association of Bridgeport, CT. Shelly and Maribeth began a program to help refugee parents improve their English so they in turn could help their school age children.

Shelly enjoyed traveling, studying the stock market, reading history, traveling, being with his family, and watching and discussing sports with his son and grandson.

Graveside service will be at Lawncroft Cemetery, today, March 3rd, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., with a live stream available at www.greensfuneralhome.com. All in-person attendees must wear a mask and observe social distancing.
