Madonna Anne Sacco

Madonna Anne Sacco, of Fairfield and Niantic, an attorney who was a tireless champion in the defense of physicians and health care professionals throughout Connecticut, passed into eternal peace on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy battle with cancer. Her passion, dedication, tenacity and skill not only won complex contested matters, but the admiration and gratitude of her clients, peers, judges and co-workers. Her physicians became her clients and vice versa. During the course of her long career, she tried numerous cases, many of which involved unique issues of first impression. She loved the law and practiced with great distinction. She attended law school in the evening while working full time in management at Southern New England Telephone. She began her legal career in 1985 at Legal Assistance to Prisoners where she met her loving husband Brian W. Smith. She often said it was “love at first sight” when she first saw Brian. He was a bit more deliberative. She became Managing Partner of Bai, Pollock, Blueweiss and Mulcahey PC of Bridgeport in 2007. She became a founding member of Danaher, Lagnese and Sacco of Hartford and Bridgeport and eventually became a member of Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy and Bach, with offices in New York and Connecticut. She retired in 2018. In addition to her career as a lawyer, she was a fundraiser, board member and volunteer for many long-standing community institutions, including the Norma Pfreim Breast Center and the Mercy Learning Center. By far her greatest source of pride was the love she shared with her family, her husband, Brian Smith; and sons, Quinn (Cara Hughes) and Grant Smith. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Mark Hadlock, niece and her husband, Victoria (Hadlock) and Andrew Diaz; her nephew and his wife, Harold and Drew Hadlock; and her great-nephew, Theodore Diaz. Services will be private and a memorial service will be planned at a later date.
