Alexander Rostocki

-

Alexander Rostocki, age 92, of Southbury entered into rest on Friday, June 18, 2021 at his home. He was the devoted husband of the late Frances (Gomis) Rostocki. Alexander was born in Seymour, on March 16, 1929, son of the late Jacob and Mary (Klanko) Rostocki. Alex and his twin brother Edward were happy hyperactive little boys whom his mother Mary and sister Anna could barely keep under control. In the 1940’s Alex helped his parents run the J & M Rostocki Tavern in Ansonia. His family also owned apartments, and as a teenager he was sent to collect the rent from the slow payers. Alex met his future wife, Frances Gomis at a Derby/Shelton football game. Frances remembered fondly how Alex never let her carry her own school books. He joined the Marines in 1946 and toured the Pacific and Mediterranean. During the Korean War he dropped food and supplies from aircraft to the troops on the ground. He married in 1952, and later had a son, Alex Jr. He lived in Ansonia, Shelton and Southbury. He worked as a manager at BF Goodrich in Shelton and Wasley Products Co. in Plainville. He loved horticulture and built his own greenhouse in Shelton, which was a tropical paradise in winter. He loved the CT Cactus and Succulent Society and enjoyed helping with its annual show. In his retirement he was an almost daily presence helping his friends at Patty’s Pantry in Southbury, where he entertained the customers with his jokes. He loved lotteries and the casinos. He famously won a prize in the lottery and had his photo in the newspaper with a ceremonial check. His kindness and generosity will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Alexander was the beloved father of Alexander Rostocki, uncle of Jeanette Mansell and her husband James, brother-inlaw of Remedio Barrachina and Patricia Gomis and uncle of Peter Barrachina and his wife Gina, Frank Barrachina and his wife Tally, Peter F. Gomis and his wife Carla. He was also survived by several great-nieces and nephews and his special friends, Conrad and Bertha Fortin, and Gani and Robin Metaj and daughters. Alexander was predeceased by a brother, Edward Rostocki and a sister, Anna (Rostocki) Kashuba. On Friday morning, June 25, friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10 a.m. for his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. His burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may leave condolences at www.riverviewfh.com.
