Alton “Alfie” Richard Donofrio

Alton Richard Donofrio “Alfie,” age 78, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2021, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the loving and devoted husband of Gailyn V. O’Brien Donofrio. Richard was born in Derby on December 23, 1942, son of the late Raymond and Amelia Maffeo Donofrio. He was raised and lived in Ansonia until moving to Stratford twenty-five years ago. Richard was employed at Sikorsky United Aircraft for forty-one years until his retirement. He was wellknown for his musical talent with the Starlighters Band for many years and also his retirement group, Sentimental Journey. Richard was involved in many activities. He was president of Sikorsky Retirees Friendship Club, Membership Chairman of Local 1150 Teamsters Union Retirees, a member of Sikorsky Century Club and a prior member of the Sikorsky bowling team. He loved life and was fun to be around. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he honorably served his country in the Vietnam War and was Past Commander of the American Legion in Derby, and also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Stratford and Disabled American Veterans in Milford. In addition to his loving wife Gailyn, Richard leaves to cherish his memory, beloved daughter, Cindy Donofrio of New Haven, a sister, Betty Ann Haversat of Belleview, FL, nieces, Cheryl Applegate (Larry) and Laura

Jasper (Kevin) all of FL, along with several greatnieces and great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a great-nephew, Larry Lee Applegate. Visitation for family and friends will take place on Saturday, July 10, 2021, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m., in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/ BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph of Stratford National Catholic Church in Stratford. Interment with military honors will immediately follow in Union Cemetery, 23 Temple Court, Stratford.
