Marion Gulash
Marion Gulash, age 93, of Stratford, died on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was the widow of Michael Gulash.
Mrs. Gulash was born in Bridgeport to James and Mary (Yaroschak) Poranda. She was retired from Schick.
Marion inherited a strong sense of giving from her father who taught her, “You can’t always take. You have to give back”. She certainly lived by that advice through her outstanding lifetime of volunteerism and service to others. Marion fully immersed herself in many organizations that support individuals with Down’s Syndrome. Her son, John, has been a participant in Special Olympics for many years and Mrs. Gulash has been honored by the organization for her volunteer efforts. She was inducted into the CT Special Olympics Hall of Fame and had received the Outstanding Volunteer Award and also Family of the Year.
One of her most fulfilling associations has been with Global Volunteers, an international organization aimed at building relationships and fostering peace through service projects worldwide. Through Global Volunteers, Marion volunteered in Poland and Ecuador where she worked with disabled children.
Mrs. Gulash also served in various capacities at Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church and the Kennedy Center.
Survivors include her beloved children, James and Sandra Gulash of Longs, SC, Michael and Kathleen Gulash of Stratford and John Gulash of Stratford; grandchildren, Bonnie and Michael Lemieux and Sharon Gulash; great grand children, Bailey, Melissa and Katelyn Lemieux and Allison Gulash; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Anna Poranda.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 9 a,m. at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford and at 10 a.m. at Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church with V. Rev. John Jillions officiating. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. (masks required).
