Dr. Glenn “Bud” Sandberg, Jr.

SANDBERG, Dr. Glenn “Bud” W., Jr. – 76, longtime resident of Scituate, MA passed away on the afternoon of November 13, 2021 after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Rita (McCarthy) Sandberg, with whom he shared more than 41 years of marriage.

Bud was born in Davenport, Iowa, he was the son of the late Glenn W. and Linnea (Anderson) Sandberg. He grew up in Denver, CO and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1962 and went on to attend Columbia University class of 1966. Bud earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in 1970. He did his surgical residency at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and served in the US Public Health Service. He spent two years as a cardiac surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic before becoming the chairman of The Department of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery at Bridgeport Hospital. Bud retired in 1999 and went on to enjoy being with his family, skiing and sailing.

He was the devoted father of Erik Sandberg and his partner Jess Sand of Oakland, CA, Karl Sandberg and his wife Kimberly of Morrison,

CO and Paul Sandberg of Scituate, MA.

Cherished “Sandy” to grandchildren Julia and Patrick Sandberg.

Loving brother of Marcia Ward of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by his nieces Sarah Holtz and Barbara Ward.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 4-8 p.m. at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, MA. Funeral Mass Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate, MA. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
