Carol Mae Young, 89, of Monroe, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at home with family at her side. She was the loving wife of the late John E. Young Sr. She was born April 2, 1932 in Willimanti­c to the late Charlie and Marion (Hanson) Maass. Carol graduated from Windham High School in 1950 and the University of Bridgeport in 1952 with an Associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene. While at UB she met the love of her life, John. They married in 1957, having three children. They built their home and settled in Monroe where they were active in school activities, their Church (UMC) and town politics. They retired to Florida, were John passed. Carol returned to Monroe, living with her daughter in the family home, until her death. Carol had a varied career; a dental hygienist, a secretary at Sikorsky, selling Amway products, copy editor for the Monroe Courier, owning Bo-Tik Gifts, Sunday School co-superinten­dent at UMC Monroe, courtesy counter at Monroe Supermarke­t and finally JC-Penney sales associate. She always believed her favorite and most important jobs were as wife, mother, and grandmothe­r. She was an avid crocheter and knitter making many afghans and Christmas stockings for her children, grandchild­ren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Carol retired to Florida with her husband where they enjoyed many good years. Upon her return to Monroe, she rejoined the Friendship Circle at the Church. She is survived by her three children, sons John Young Jr and wife Christy of VA, David Young and wife Karen of Shelton; daughter, Donna Young of Monroe. Carol also leaves her much loved grandchild­ren, David Jr, Andrea and Lauren; her older sister Audrey Ashley; cousins, Joan Flick and Kenneth Burkamp and several nieces, nephews, step-grandchild­ren and step-great-grandchild­ren. She was cherished and will be missed by her entire family. In addition to her husband of 50 years, Carol was predecease­d by her brother Bill Maass. A very special thank you to everyone at Vitas Hospice and her private aides who took such wonderful care of Carol during their time spent with her. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 515 Cutler’s Farm Rd., Monroe. Burial will be private to the family.
