Emmett M. Spillane, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on November 19. He was 59. Emmett was the son of Kathleen Gerwien Spillane and the late Emmett M. Spillane, Sr. He was the beloved husband of Patricia White Spillane and the treasured father of Jack Emmett Spillane and Erin May Spillane. He will be greatly missed by his sisters and brothers: Patty Gallagher (Sean), Maureen Rooney ( Jim), Sean and Brian. Emmett was a special brother-in-law to Stan, Lori, Tom, Janice, Jackie, Denis, Susan, Bob and Mary Beth and a wonderful uncle to several nieces and nephews. Emmett was a graduate of Stratford High School and a proud Marshall University Thundering Herd alumnus. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked at various companies as a credit analyst while his heart was always with sports journalism, which he learned from his father. “Ace” was a friend to all and a gifted athlete and teammate. He was a record-setter in Stratford Original Little League, played baseball at Stratford High School and in various baseball leagues. He was a winner of the MVP Award in the Senior City League, where he played on his father’s Panama Inn team, as well as other teams. He continued his athletic career playing softball for various teams, going to multiple national tournament­s. Family was everything to Emmett. His biggest joys in life were Jack and Erin. He was truly put on this earth to be their dad. He was their biggest cheerleade­r and coach. They inherited so much from him, including his big heart, sense of humor and love of sports. He will be forever missed by his wife with whom he shared love and laughter for 32 years. Which wasn’t long enough. Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. Masks are required, as visitors walk through, pay their respects, and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through the building. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 24th at 10:30 a.m. meeting directly at St. James Church, 2070 Main Street, Stratford. Interment will be private.
