TRUMBULL — An 84year-old Monroe man died in a one-car motor vehicle accident on Stonehouse Road in Trumbull on Thursday.

The victim, Gino Magliocco was the driver and only occupant of the involved vehicle. According to police, the department began receiving calls around 10:30 a.m. reporting the accident.

Trumbull officers began giving medical aid to Magliocco shortly after arriving. Trumbull EMS arrived and assisted with treatment before transporting him to Saint Vincent’s Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

The Long Hill and Trumbull Center Fire Departments also responded and assisted with securing the scene.

According to police, Magliocco’s vehicle had traveled east on Stonehouse Road before it struck a tree, causing it to roll, and eventually cross the roadway before it came to rest. The accident scene spanned a large section of Stonehouse Road between West Rock Road and Thomas Street.

Builder Nicholas Laferriere was in the backyard of a Trumbull home in the area Thursday, doing some home repairs, when the accident happened.

Laferriere said he didn’t initially see the car go off the road and onto the lawn of the home where he was working.

“The house was blocking my view,” said Laferriere, owner and founder of Burlington-based Laferriere

Builders.

His first indication that something was wrong, he said, was that he was one of his workers dive out of the way of something. He said he then heard a loud noise, and saw more people running away from the house.

Laferriere said he left his work to see what was going on, and found a car had driven up onto the lawn of the house he was working on, hit a tree and a mulch pile, then flipped multiple times, leaving debris all over Stonehouse Road. The car then caught fire, Laferriere said, so he took action.

“I grabbed the fire extinguisher out of my car,” he said. “I sprayed the whole car down and told the fire department when they got there.”

The Trumbull and Fairfield Police Department’s traffic divisions are investigating this incident. The cause of the accident and cause of death have not been determined at this time.

The area of Stonehouse Road between Thomas Street and West Rock Road was closed for several hours due to the accident, and reopened about 2:30 p.m.

Trumbull Police are asking anyone who may have information about this accident to contact the Trumbull Police Department directly at 203-2613665.
