NEW HAVEN — A federal judge on Monday sentenced a Bridgeport man to more than eight years in prison after he admitted to being one of the members of the Greene Homes Boyz gang who were present during the 2020 shooting outside a Bridgeport courthouse, officials said.

The judge ordered Destine Calderon, 27, to serve three years of supervised release after his prison sentence, the U.S. Attorney’s office said. Calderon pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to engage in a pattern of racketeering activity on October 1, 2021.

“In pleading guilty, Calderon admitted that he participated in gang-related drug trafficking,” the U.S. Attorney’s office said in a press release at the time. Prosecutors allege Calderon appeared in YouTube videos and other social media posts “promoting the gang,” the office said.

He also admitted to being present during the courthouse shooting.

Around 12:11 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2020, Bridgeport police were called to the courthouse at 172 Golden Hill St. after a report of gunfire. At the scene, four victims were found with gunshot wounds in a black Chevrolet Impala. One victim was left paralyzed by the assault, according to prosecutors.

Authorities allege that Calderon was a member of the Greene Homes Boyz gang, also known as “GHB” or “Hotz,” a city gang based in the Charles F. Greene Homes Housing Complex in the North End neighborhood. It was alleged the group is one of “multiple Bridgeport-based gangs whose members are involved in narcotics trafficking, murder and other acts of violence,” the U.S. Attorney’s office said.

“From approximately 2017 until August 2020, GHB/Hotz members were aligned with members of the “Original North End” (“O.N.E.”), a gang based in the Trumbull Gardens area of Bridgeport, against rival groups in Bridgeport, including the East End, East Side and PT Barnum gangs, as well as 150, which is a geographic gang based on the West Side of Bridgeport,” the office said.

Calderon has been detained since Aug. 6, 2020.

Calderon was one of eight alleged gang members charged in a federal indictment last year for drug trafficking and attempted murders.

He was also one of six people charged in the Janurary 2020 courthouse shooting. Tyiese Warren was sentenced to 40 years in prison, Marquis Isreal was sentenced to 17 years and both Diome Blackwell and Laheem Jones were each sentenced to 15 years.

Asante Gaines is scheduled to be sentenced on June 8.
