Elizabeth Kenny

-

Elizabeth (Betty) Martha Kenny (née Prendergast) entered into eternal rest in Dublin, Ireland, on May 11, 2022, after a brief illness.

Betty was born in the Bronx, New York, on December 14, 1924. She graduated from Villa Maria Academy and worked as a draftsperson for United Fruit at the Piers in Manhattan, redesigning fruit ships for war supplies during WWII. She married the love of her life, Peter Kenny, in 1946 when he returned from the war.

Betty and Peter raised their ten children in New York City, New Jersey, and in Fairfield and Easton, Connecticut. They retired to Ireland in 1983.

Betty lived a long life, from ice boxes to iPads. And, yes, she used her iPad and iPhone often. She’d connect with her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren on Facetime from thousands of miles away. But when asked what her favorite invention was in her 97 years, she’d say the microwave.

Betty is mourned and very sadly missed by her sons and daughters, Lawrence Kenny, Peter Kenny and Maureen Junker-Kenny; and their children, Fiona and Kilian, Michael Kenny; and his children, Brendan and Lauren, Christopher and Keiko Kenny; and their children, Patrick and Brian, Patrick Kenny and Deirdre O’Hara, John Kenny, Elizabeth (Kenny) Casey; and her children, Meghan and Catherine, Anne Kenny, and Thomas Kenny.

Betty is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Ariane, Clark, Belle, and Arielle Kenny; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter; daughter, Maureen Kenny; grandson, Sean Kenny; son-in-law, Brian Casey; and sisters, Patricia and Joan.

Betty’s Funeral Mass will be livestreamed ( https:// www.kilmacudparish.ie/ ), Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 5:00am ET from Church of St. Laurence O’Toole in Kilmacud, Stillorgan, Ireland.
