Sue F. Angel

-

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sue F. Angel, soul mate and beloved wife to the late Henry Angel, devoted mother to N. Angel Fredricks and her husband Paul, Julie Beitman and her husband Russell, Jon and his wife Evie, doting grandmother to Damon (Nicole) Fredricks, Casey (Rob) McFarland, Chloe and Zach Angel, and Drew and Cooper Beitman, and great-grandmother to Hailey Fredricks and Ainsley McFarland.

Born November 25, 1933 to Elias and Mae Feinsod, in Brooklyn Heights, New York, Sue’s life was filled with laughter, love, and friendships that spanned decades. A strong woman, known for her quick wit, Sue always let you know where she stood on a subject and as her children and their friends can attest, nothing got past Sue Angel.

She met the love of her life at eighteen as summer camp counselors. She and Henry were married in 1954 and inseparable for 67 years. Living first in Norwalk and then Trumbull, they moved to their forever home in Fairfield in 1976, where Sue tended to her beautiful gardens and gave swimming lessons in their backyard pool. If you lived in the tristate area, then you know that an open invitation to come for a swim was always extended. You never quite knew who might be in the backyard if you stopped by and Sue loved every minute of it. Gatherings at the Angel home were frequent, and everyone was always welcome. Sue never met a friend of a friend that she didn’t invite to dinner. While we could never shake her of her love for White Zinfandel or liver and onions, we fully embraced her love of hotdogs (kosher obviously) and a good, seeded rye.

Sue was a lifelong volunteer. She gave her time freely and abundantly to organizations closest to her heart, particularly Congregation Beth El and Jewish Senior Services, having given literally hundreds of tours to prospective residents over the years. Her circle of friends was vast and varied. Whether she was with ladies from the volleyball days at the JCC, friends from the Trumbull neighborhood, her book club, or on boating adventures with friends from SHYC, Sue could always be found with a sly smile on her face and a witty one-liner at the ready.

Forever first mate to Henry’s captain, Sue and Henry’s love story was legendary. She will always be missed but we take solace that there is no doubt that they are together again – holding hands as usual. May their memories be a blessing.

Graveside services will be Monday, May 23rd at 11 a.m., Congregation Beth El Cemetery, 250 Reid Street in Fairfield. Services will also be available via Livestream at www.greensfuneralhome. com. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a favorite charity in Sue’s memory. Deepest gratitude to Ella, who provided care, comfort, and laughter to Sue over the past year. Shiva will be observed Monday and Tuesday evenings at 6pm at the Beitman home at 1 Greystone Farm Lane in Westport.
