Grant G. Ames

-

Grant G. Ames, 78, of Bethany Village and Coxsackie, NY passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Formerly of Trumbull, CT and Medusa, NY, he has lived in this area for around 20 years.

Born in Bridgeport, CT, Grant was the son of the late Walter and Virginia Ames. Mr. Ames served in the U.S. Army. For many years he was Assistant Vice President of the former People’s Bank of Bridgeport, CT.

Grant loved music. From the Beatles to American Rhythm & Blues of the late 60s and early 70s, he could often be found surrounded by records with headphones on and his eyes closed, lost to the music. His knowledge of music and musical arrangements was so profound, he was given the opportunity by his close friend, famed music producer Paul Leka, to participate in the production of various recordings at Connecticut Recording in Bridgeport, CT. Grant’s work led to him being awarded a Gold Record for his contribution to Harry Chapin’s Verities & Balderdash album, which included the timeless song “Cat’s in the Cradle.”

Grant was also an excellent cook. His signature meal being a roast that he perfected over many years.

A man of letters, either hand-written or typed, Grant was a prolific writer, whose eloquent honesty, advice, and life lessons often graced those closest to him. He was an early adopter of the home computer, convinced that it would change the world. He began as a user, evolved into a builder, and became an expert.

Grant was loved by all around him thanks to his huge personality. He was always the funniest person in the room. Stories about Grant are too many to count and were frequently recounted in living rooms and bar rooms across great distances by friends and family.

At the end of a long life truly lived, Grant’s greatest legacy was that of a father. He is survived by his son Christian Ames and spouse Colleen of Athens, NY; daughter Lauren Tegins and spouse John of Sparks, NV, and son Jeremy Ames and spouse Valerie of Shelton, CT. He was the grandfather of Meghan, Mary Kate, Grayson, Hailey, Anthony, Sophia, Michael, John, Casey, Kendall, and the late John Tegins. He was husband first to the mother of his three children Barbara Ames of Stratford, CT, and then Karen Outerson of Norwalk, CT. He was the brother of Gary Ames of FL and the late Susan Ames of Medusa, NY, and uncle to several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private.
