Auriemma, Mora highlight Travelers Celebrity Pro-Am

UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma, UConn football coach Jim Mora and actor Bill Murray are among the celebritie­s scheduled to play in the Travelers Championsh­ip’s Celebrity Pro-Am on Wednesday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.

Auriemma has won 11 national championsh­ips at UConn and was inducted into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. Chris Dailey, the associate women’s coach, also returns to play in the pro-am. This will be the first appearance for Mora as he is set to begin his first season as the Huskies’ football coach.

Dan Orlovsky of ESPN, the former UConn and NFL quarterbac­k, will also be teeing it up, along with UConn men’s hockey coach Mike Cavanaugh and Nancy Stevens, who won 700 games in 43 seasons as UConn’s field hockey coach.

Three retired athletes with ties to the New England area are also in the field. Doug Flutie, who won a Heisman Trophy at Boston College in 1984 and briefly played for the New England Patriots, joins

former Patriot Andre Tippett, who is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Former Boston Red Sox knucklebal­ler Tim Wakefield is also playing.

Among the other actors joining Murray are Christophe­r Jackson, who starred in the CBS show “Bull” among several other credits; and Dane DeHaan, who starred in the HBO series, “Zero, Zero, Zero.”

Also playing will be Javier Colon, who won “The Voice” in 2011, along with ESPN personalit­ies Chris Berman and Michael Eaves.
