Greenwich police: Trumbull man charged with larceny, sexual assault

- By Robert Marchant

GREENWICH — A Trumbull man was arrested on multiple felony charges in connection with two separate incidents in Greenwich involving the sexual assault of a child and the theft of checks, police said.

Greenwich police said they issued an arrest warrant for Eugene Izuazu, 29, of Laurie Road, Trumbull, after an investigation into two incidents last year.

Fairfield police detained Izuazo during a traffic stop June 10, according to his arrest report, and he was transported to Greenwich for booking. Police said two sets of charges were filed against Izuazo.

Izuazu was accused of stealing personal checks, altering them and then cashing them for $1,000, police said. In that incident, he was charged with a felony count of second-degree larceny, as well as criminal impersonation and identity theft, police said. Bail was set at $50,000 on those charges.

In the other incident, Izuazu “engaged in inappropriate sexual acts” in front of a child under the age of 16 in Greenwich, police said. Izuazu, who was accused of making “inappropriate advances” toward another person and restraining that individual, was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault of a person under the age of 16, a felony, as well as obscenity, third-degree sexual assault, unlawful restraint and disorderly conduct, police said.

Police said he was “assuming the identity of another person” in that incident, and he was additionally charged with criminal impersonation. Bail was set at $50,000 on those charges.

The incidents took place in February 2021, according to his arrest report.

Izuazu was unable to post bond and was held in state custody late this week. His next court date was set for June 24 in state Superior Court, according to the arrest report.
