BRIDGEPORT — An older pedestrian struck by a car near a Fairfield Avenue intersection Tuesday afternoon succumbed to her injuries that evening, according to local authorities.

The pedestrian was identified as Alma Willis, 74, of Bridgeport, said Sgt. Darryl Wilson of the

Bridgeport Police Department’s Traffic Division. Her next of kin has been notified.

“The Bridgeport Police Department’s thoughts and prayers are with Alma Willis’ family and friends,” Wilson said.

Bridgeport emergency dispatchers received several calls around 4:28 p.m. Tuesday reporting an older female pedestrian had been hit by a car near the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Broad Street, according to Wilson. Callers said the pedestrian was not moving and the involved driver had remained on thr scene, Wilson said.

Responding fire and ambulance personnel diagnosed the pedestrian, later identified as Willis, with a head injury and trauma to her lower extremities, according to Wilson. The first officer on the scene described her as “coherent” and observed medics treating her before she was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Wilson said.

He also took note of “a black 2018 Acura I(L)X on scene, with the front windshield smashed on the passenger side,” Wilson said.

Members of the Bridgeport Police Department’s Serious Crash Team determined Willis was attempting to cross the street near the intersection when she was hit by a black 2018 Acura ILX driven by a 37year-old Norwalk woman, according to Wilson. The car was traveling west on Fairfield Avenue at the time of the incident, Wilson said.

Willis died Tuesday evening, authorities said.
