Patricia Agnes Kranyik Butzko, R.N. age 87, of Fairfield, CT passed away into eternal life on February 19, 2023, in Fairfield. Born in Bridgeport, Patricia was a lifelong Fairfield resident. She was the widow of the late Donald P. Butzko, and the daughter of the late retired Fairfield Chief of Police James T. Kranyik and the late Meri Mazalin Kranyik, all of Fairfield.

Patricia is survived by her four beloved and cherished children, one daughter and three sons, Phillip Butzko, and his wife, Suzanne Bremm Butzko, of Fairfield, Jane Butzko, of Fairfield, Mark Butzko, and his husband, Raymond Dallago, III, of Palm Springs, California and Las Vegas, Nevada; David Butzko, and his wife, Lynn Reilly Butzko, of Pflugervil­le, Texas. She is also survived by her four much-loved and cherished grandchild­ren, Dr. Ryan Butzko, of Tuckahoe, NY, Jacquelyn Butzko Sorrentino, and her husband, Anthony; and her greatgrand­daughter, Josephine, of Fairfield, Julia Butzko, of Milford, and Erica Butzko, of Reno, Nevada. She is also survived by her sisterin-law, Louise Narkevics Kranyik, of Fairfield, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by her infant grandson, Brendan D. Butzko, and her brother, Robert D. Kranyik, Phd.

Patricia was educated in the Fairfield Public Schools, and at 8th grade graduation was awarded the DAR medal. She graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1953, and the St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in Bridgeport in 1956, and she became a registered nurse. In addition, she attended the University of Bridgeport, evening division, part time. Patricia worked at her chosen profession of nursing for 41 years. She worked as a staff nurse and private duty nurse at area hospitals. She was also employed as a public health nurse by the town of Fairfield health department and the VNA where she worked as a school nurse and visiting nurse before her children were born. Later on, she was employed as a geriatric staff nurse at St. Joseph’s Manor in Trumbull for 21 years, retiring from there in 1997.

Patricia was a member of Our Lady of La Leche Catholic Mother’s Circle in Fairfield for many years. She also continued a very long and close friendship with four registered nurses she met at St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. Anne, Jeanne, Kathy, Mary and Patricia called themselves the PBB’s, and remained friends for the past 67 years. They enjoyed lunches out with each other over the years.

Patricia was a longtime member of the Council of Exceptiona­l Children of Connecticu­t, along with her husband, Donald Butzko, who was a highly respected and honored special education teacher. She traveled extensivel­y in the United States and Canada representi­ng the State of Connecticu­t, to further the mission of the Council for Exceptiona­l Children.

Patricia was very proud of her Hungarian Heritage, and the fact that all four of her grandparen­ts were born in Hungary and came to the United States to live at a very young age. They became U.S. citizens, were gainfully employed, and thrived in their new lives in the U.S. and especially in the Fairfield and Bridgeport areas.

Family and friends are invited to greet the family on Thursday, February 23, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Lesko and Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Holy Cross Church, 750 Tahmore Drive, Fairfield. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a high school scholarshi­p fund to be establishe­d in Patricia’s memory. This scholarshi­p will be awarded annually to a graduating High School student in Fairfield who is pursuing an education in the field of Nursing.
