Shirley Pauline Rumble Szekeres passed away peacefully in St. Vincent's Hospital, Bridgeport, CT on Saturday, February 18, 2023 after a short illness.

Shirley was born in Bridgeport, January 10, 1940 to Forrest and Johanne Rumble. She grew up in Monroe and Newtown where she went to school. At Newtown High School she met her husband, Louis Szekeres and they enjoyed 49 years together. After raising her seven children, Shirley worked in area health care facilities. Upon her retirement, she and Lou moved to Vermont.

In her retirement she and Lou traveled around the United States, having only Alaska and Hawaii to visit at Lou's death. Shirley enjoyed her little garden at Stern Village, was an avid reader, building jigsaw puzzles and coloring. Shirley was a member of the Captain Christian Brown Chapter of the DAR and a Daughter of the war of 1812.

Shirley is predecease­d by her husband Louis, her parents, brother John Rumble, son David Szekeres and grandson Kevin Szekeres. She is survived by her sister Joan Sondergaar­d of Richmondvi­lle, NY, six beloved children, Adeline (Mark) Hazzard, Rodger (Paula) Szekeres, Suzanne (Raymond) Meeker, Aaron (Susan) Szekeres, John G. Szekeres and Jessica (Bill) Nitsche, grandsons Jason (Maria) Szekeres, Daniel Szekeres and granddaugh­ter Amy (Xavier) Alvarez and great-grandsons, Zion Alvarez and Miles Alvarez, also granddaugh­ter Dawn (Carl) Bierce. She is also survived by in-laws, Betty Barnes, David Nichols and Ray Nichols, Lisa Connor and Laura Riley and several nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service and interment in Mountain Grove Cemetery will happen at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made to The Nature Conservanc­y, Attn: Treasury, 4245 N.
