Water main testing to cause traffic disruptions on New Canaan Road in Wilton
WILTON — A portion of New Canaan Road will experience traffic disruptions starting this week as crews fill and test a water main, according to officials.
The project is overseen by Aquarion Water Company, which supplies water to more than 700,000 people in 60 towns and cities across Connecticut, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. It will affect the stretch of New Canaan Road between Old Boston Road and the Belden Hill water tanks, officials said.
Contractors will begin filling the water main this week, according to Aquarion officials. Work will be performed between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., officials said.
Testing is scheduled to run from March 13 through March 17, according to officials. One portion of the testing process will run continuously for a minimum of 30 hours, officials said.
Water samples will be taken at multiple locations along the water main. While testing will require some night work, officials said, noise from pipe flushing and water sampling activity will not be significant.
During testing, “the road will remain open at all times with an alternating oneway traffic pattern in place,” Aquarion officials said in a statement. “There may be times where eastbound traffic or westbound traffic may be directed to use the Old Boston Road/Seir Hill Road/ Belden Hill Road detour.”
To help regulate traffic, officials said, police officers, flaggers and signs will be stationed in the area to direct cars and other vehicles. School bus stops will not change, officials said.
Residents in the area were advised to coordinate with traffic controllers to ensure property access during the work period.
