UNVEILING THE ROOMS

-

Let’s see how Katie and Ryan designed and decorated some of their favorite rooms.

GREAT ROOM

A mostly white color palette gives the open-plan great room a fresh, airy feel. “All the walls in our home were primed with KILZ primer and then painted with Ultra Pure White paint by Behr,” Katie says. “DecoArt supplied all our craft paint needs (stencils, paint and paint brushes).” A beautiful chandelier and eye-catching fan from Hunter Fan help anchor the room; the apothecary dressers are from Harvest Furniture. “We wanted an open floor plan with a vaulted ceiling in the great room. But instead of mounting a real reclaimed beam ... we decided to make it ourselves. [Ryan] built three beams, and the kids and I distressed and stained them. Then we joined the ends to make one long ‘reclaimed’ beam. Because it’s a beast, some of my amazing family came in to help mount it to the ceiling.”

The shiplap wall around the fireplace from The Rustic Collection adds rich farmhouse texture and warms up the space, while Woodgrain

Distribution trim around the door and windows keeps the look clean and well edited. “Also we wanted as much natural light as possible, hence all the windows and glass doors. The white walls and ceiling help to reflect the light as well,” Katie says. The reclaimed mantel is from Georgia Reclaimed. We love how the wood texture ties in with the reclaimed beam.“

KITCHEN

The black-and-white color palette gives this space its striking appeal, while natural wood balances the look and brings in the classic farmhouse vibe. “I wanted spinning bar stools with adjustable heights and a huge island, because that’s one of the places where everyone will gather,” Katie says. “The white concrete countertops really pop against the black cabinets. Having two refrigerators is a great bonus.” Beautiful clear glass pendants from Capital Lighting add a touch of sophistication and glimmer, while the Blanco faucet and sink bring in chic industrial style.

PANTRY

This small space packs in big style thanks to ample shelving, which Katie styles with her signature mix of vintage creativity and farmhouse charm. The black Capital Lighting chandelier is another showstopper. “I love the café curtains; they’re actually a grain-sack style shower curtain that I cut in half,” Katie says. “And having the apron sink in the pantry is a fun addition.”

LIVING ROOM

We wanted an oversized fireplace and hearth, with a reclaimed mantel, and we’re so happy with it,” Katie says. To save a little in our budget, we picked up some Billy bookcases from Ikea and joined them together to look like built-ins. One of our sofa tables is a DIY project that my son and I made recently: We bought some old, green metal bins at a yard sale for $2 each. Then we sprayed them black with chalkboard paint and added some vintage chippy planks to make the top. We love how this beautiful piece looks next to our sectional sofa.”

MUDROOM/LAUNDRY

This combo room shows Katie’s fun personality and creative

perspective on decorating. “We wanted a place to drop our stuff and hide it behind closed doors, so the lockers provide great hidden storage,” Katie says. A gorgeous antique runner from LillieKat Rugs really pops against the perfectly rustic butcher-block countertops, and the laundry sink and faucet (both from Elkay) look so fantastic. “My friends Linda and Alan from A Simple Place on Main made the ‘Home at Last’ sign for us because we are homebodies at heart.”

Hooks from Liberty Hardware complement the shiplap from The Rustic Collection, which adds texture and interest to the room. “Our butcher-block countertop provides a great space to fold laundry in the laundry room,” Katie says. Other accessories include an olive bucket from Living Roots, an Aztec pillow from Tuesday Morning and a ruffled pillow from The Vintage Songbird. The butcher-block countertops are from CraftArt Countertops, and the laundry sink and faucet are both from Elkay. “The market tote is from Orchard Hill Farms and the Turkish throw from Artizen Home are fun accents,” Katie says.

MASTER BATH AND POWDER ROOM

“A dear friend gave me that amazing black sink,” Katie says. “I touched it up with some DecoArt chalkboard paint, and it’s as

good as new! And our concrete-tile flooring from Riad Tile looks great with that sink.” The white, Shaker-style cabinets in the master bathroom are from Woodstone Cabinetry. Stewart Concrete Finishing Inc. provided the concrete flooring throughout the home. Ace Hardware of Social Circle was the source for the home’s spray-foam insulation. The doorknobs, barn door sliders and barn-door pulls are from Delany/Wisemart.

KIDS’ BEDROOMS

“Our son loves to play golf, so when our concrete foundation was poured, we had them install some golf holes (that we’d previously purchased) into the floor,” Katie says. “Also, to add dimension and interest to his bedroom, we used peel-and-stick planks from Timberchic. With the

help of our kiddos and my sister, we whipped it out in no time! Also, my parents found the lockers in our son’s room. They’re perfect for his room. In our daughter’s bedroom, the zippered bedding from Beddy’s is called “Love at First White.”

“We feel tremendously blessed to be able to call this home; we can’t believe we actually get to live here every day. We are so thankful to the Lord for His abundant provision and grace,” Katie says. “To be able to step outside at night and in the mornings and to only hear the singing of the birds and crickets is so amazing to us. We are so excited and thankful for this new chapter in our lives.”

?? ?? |ABOVE RIGHT| KITCHEN MIX. “We are so in love with how our kitchen turned out,” Katie says. The faucet gives the sink area a graceful touch, while Shaker-style cabinets and a handcrafted vent hood are the focal points. The concrete countertops were another DIY project. Brushed-brass geometric drawer pulls brighten up the black cabinets.

A colorful runner from LillieKat Rugs complements the butcher-block countertops. “The chrome faucet from Elkay has different functions and works incredibly well,” Katie says. “We love our Lancaster chandelier in matte black from Capital Lighting,” she says. “Its oversized scale makes a cool statement and pops against the white shiplap from The Rustic Collection,” The couple built and stained the open shelving and got the metal brackets at a local crafts store. Black baskets and wooden bowls add color, interest and texture. Katie found the “Country Store” sign at an estate sale.

Concrete floor tiles pop against shiplap from The Rustic Collection and an antique sink from a friend. “The sink had a few scratches, so just a quick coat of chalkboard paint did the trick, and now it looks good as new!” Katie says. The National Encyclopedia wooden shelf above the toilet is from an old crate Katie bought at a yard sale. “I asked my hubby to cut it in half so we could have two shelves—and he did an awesome job!” she says.|OPPOSITE TOP| GIRL’S ROOM. “In our daughter’s bedroom, her bedside table is just an old, wooden crate turned on its side and screwed into the wall; her headboard is an estate-sale purchase. It was a mirror that we painted and mounted to the wall to make a headboard,” Katie says. “It reminded me of the French Provincial desk in her room, so they look great together!” A creamy, chunkyknit throw adds a different neutral shade besides white.

?? ?? INDUSTRIAL STRENGTHS. “Have you noticed the gorgeous molding/trim throughout our home? We absolutely love the farmhouse vibes from the handiwork of Woodgrain Distribution,” Katie says. In her son’s bathroom, the O’Neal light fixture from Capital Lighting is a bright idea for the industrial-style bathroom. The mirror was a thrift-store purchase that the couple refreshed with black chalkboard paint. Their son sprayed the campaign-style accents around the mirror with gold spray paint.

A white linen sheet set and striped bedding create a crisp farmhouse look. “We used old trunks as our bedside tables, and the matte-black Brock lanterns from Capital Lighting really pop against the white shiplap from The Rustic Collection,” Katie says. Concrete flooring anchors the room. A reclaimed door that Ryan mounted to the wall using barn-door hardware was taken from an old general store. A tribal basket holds a fiddle fig, adding interest to the room.
