1. FOCAL POINT: Home in on collecting a large assortment of colors and

prints that resonate with each other and create a concept.

2. CURATE THE COLLECTION: Ensure that your items have various changes in the scale, repetition and theme of the patterns.

3. BALANCING ACT: The key to combining prints is to have a balanced assortment of positive and negative patterns and colors.

4. SLIDING SCALE: Arrange your textiles starting with a large-scale print, moving to a medium scale, and then to a small scale, so you can see which ones work together. Then get to mixing, layering and integratin­g.

5. BLANK SLATE: Always use the floor or a wall as your drawing board. Looking down and away from a dimension beneath you exaggerate­s all the nuances of the textiles.
