• Hip roof: A roof that has slopes on four sides of equal lengths. The slopes converge at the top of the home to form a ridge.
• Hip and valley: A separate section of roof that does not line up with the top ridge of the main hip roof. The place where the two rooflines converge is called the valley.
• Clapboard: Wood siding that has horizontal overlapping boards that create an evenly spaced line pattern.
• Shingle roof: A roofing material made of individual wood pieces that overlap to create a square grid pattern.
