Big Solutions

Here’s how to keep a large kitchen feeling cozy and grounded.

1. LIGHT IT UP. Large-scale pendant lights are a huge help in an open kitchen. Smaller lights can be swallowed up by the space, while larger lights will help the space feel balanced.

2. WINDOWS AND ARCHES. Arched windows give the space a homier feel and provide a border along the window’s edge. This prevents the walls from looking too expansive.

3. COLOR PALETTE. Keep the eye moving and prevent guests from focusing on any one thing by choosing a monochromatic palette.

4. CEILING STAPLES. Placing iron or wooden rods across the ceiling will give it a false top, creating the illusion that the room is smaller.
