Liefmans’ Rosa Merckx becomes the first twentiethcentury Belgian woman to run a brewery.
1984
Beth Hart opens Hart Brewing (now Pyramid) in Kalama, Washington, becoming the first American female to own a brewery in the modern age.
1985
Rosemarie Certo becomes the second woman to own a brewery when she opens Dock Street Brewing in Philadelphia.
1986
Mellie Pullman cofounds Wasatch Ales in Park City, Utah, and serves as brewer and operations manager.
1987
Carol Stoudt opens Stoudts Brewing in Adamstown, Pennsylvania, and becomes the first female sole proprietor.
1990
Barbara Groom and Wendy Pound opened Lost Coast Brewing in Eureka, California, as the first female ownership team.
1991
Kim Jordan cofounds New Belgium Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Colorado, and serves as first bottler, sales rep, distributor, marketer, and financial planner.
2007
Pink Boots Society, a free education and networking club for women who make money from beer, begins.
2013
Barley’s Angels, an umbrella group for women-only educational beer clubs, holds first conference.
