Feather

Make 3. Rnd 1: With yellow, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Place marker. (6 sc) Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, dc in next st, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts, dc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in last st, join with sl st in first sc. Leaving an 8-inch tail, fasten off. (6 sc, 6 hdc, 6 dc) Position 1 Feather on each side of Body across rnds 9–14 and sew through last hdc made and next 7 sts, leaving center 10 sts unsewn. Sew last Feather in same manner to back of Body with wider end at rnd 16, leaving center 10 sts unsewn.

Beak

First Half Row 1 (RS): With pumpkin, ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, turn. (2 sc) Row 2: Ch 1, sc dec in 2 sts. Fasten off. (1 sc)

2nd Half Row 1 (RS): With RS and foundation ch facing, sc join (see Special Stitch) pumpkin in first ch, sc in next ch, turn. (2 sc) Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc dec in 2 sts. Do not fasten off. (1 sc)

Edging rnd: Now working in rnds and in ends of rows, ch 1, sc in each row of 2nd Half, working in First Half, 3 sc in row 2, sc in each end of row 1, sc in row 2, working in 2nd Half, sc in row 1, 2 sc in row 2, join (see Pattern

Notes) in beg sc. Leaving an 8-inch tail, fasten off. Working across row 1, sew Beak between rnds 8 and 9 of Body.

Feet

With pumpkin, ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of next ch and next ch of beg ch-9*, **ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of next 2 chs and next ch of beg ch-9**, rep between * twice, rep between ** once, rep between * once. Leaving an 8-inch tail, fasten off. Working in opposite side of foundation ch, sew Feet on bottom of Body across rnds 19 and 20.
