• Premier Yarns Deborah Norville Everyday Soft Worsted medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (4 oz/ 203 yds/113g per ball): 4 balls each #100-48 quiet

blue (MC) 2 balls #100-47 twilight

blue (CC) • Sizes I/9/5.5mm and K/101/2/6.5mm crochet hooks or size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle

GAUGE

Size K hook: 13 hdc = 4 inches; 8 rows = 4 inches in Panel st pattern

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Chain-2 at beginning of row counts as first half double crochet unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Backstitch single crochet decrease (bkst sc dec): Insert hook in last st worked, pull up a lp, insert hook into next st, pull up a lp (3 lps on hook), yo, draw through all lps on hook. Backstitch half double crochet decrease (bkst hdc dec): Yo, insert hook in last st worked, pull up a lp, yo, insert hook in next st, pull up a lp (5 lps on

hook), yo, draw through all lps on hook.

Single crochet join (sc join):

Place slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook.

SIDE PANEL

Make 2. With MC and larger hook, ch 17. Row 1 (RS): Working in back bar of chs (see illustrati­on), 2 hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beg

sk chs count as first hdc), *sk 1 ch, 2 hdc in next ch, rep from * across to last 2 chs, sk 1 ch, 1 hdc in last ch, turn. (16 hdc) Row 2: Ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), *2 hdc in next hdc, sk 1 hdc, rep from * across to last st, 1 hdc in top of beg ch, turn.

Rows 3–72: Rep row 2, rotate panel so long side is up after completing row 72.

Side Panel Edging

Change to smaller hook.

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, work 107 sc evenly sp in ends of rows across panel, turn. Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, sc in first st, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next

2 sts, bkst sc dec (see Special

Stitches) across, working last “leg” in last st, sc in same st, turn. (107 sc) Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, change color (see Stitch Guide) to CC in last st, turn. Cut MC. (107 sts) Row 4: With larger hook, sl st in first sc, *hdc in next sc, sl st in next hdc, rep from * across, change color to MC, turn. Cut CC. CENTER PANEL

With MC and larger hook, ch 35, working in back bar of chs, rep rows 1–72 of Side Panel, rotate panel so long side is up after completing row 72. (34 hdc)

Center Panel Edging

Rep rows 1–8 of Side Panel Edging, do not fasten off, turn.

First Side

Row 1 (WS): Ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 3, sk 1 st, sc in next st, rep from * across to end, ch 2, turn, hold edged side of 1 Side Panel to Center Panel with RS of long edges tog. Row 2 (WS of Side Panel): Sc in first sc of Side Panel, *ch 1, sc in ch-3 lp of Center Panel, ch 1, sk 1 sc on Side Panel, sc in next sc of Side Panel, rep from * across to end, ch 2, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc on Center Panel, fasten off.
