PAT­TERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work pro­gresses. Do not join rounds un­less oth­er­wise stated. Place stitch marker at beginning of rounds and move up as each round is com­pleted. Join with slip stitch as in­di­cated un­less oth­er­wise stated.

Make 2. Rnd 1: With pla­toon, form a slip ring (see illustration), ch 1,

Rnd 2: [2 sc in next st] around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] around. (18 sc)

Rnd 4: [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts] around. (24 sc) Rnd 5: [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts] around. (30 sc) Rnd 6: [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts] around. (36 sc) Rnd 7: [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 5 sts] around. (42 sc) Rnd 8: [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 6 sts] around. (48 sc) Rnds 9–18: Sc in each st around. At end of rnd 18, join (see Pat­tern Notes) in beg sc, leav­ing a 24-inch tail on 1 Shell, fas­ten off.

Neck & Head

Rnd 1: With paddy green, leav­ing a 12-inch tail, ch 12, join in

first ch to form a ring, sc in each ch around, place st marker. (12 sc) Rnd 2: Sc in each st around. Rnds 3 & 4: Rep rnd 2. Rnd 5: [2 sc in next st] around. (24 sc) Rnds 6–12: Rep rnd 2.

Rnd 13: [ Sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sts, sc in each of next 2 sts] around. (18 sc)

Rnd 14: [Sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in next st] around. (12 sc)

Rnd 15: [Sc dec in next 2 sts] around, join in beg sc, fas­ten off. (6 sc) Weave end tail through rnd 15 and pull gen­tly to close open­ing. Stuff Neck and Head with fiber­fill. Fold open­ing at base of Neck flat and sew through both thick­nesses of sts to close. Leave rem tail for sewing Neck to Shell.

Eye

Make 2.

Rnd 1: With white, ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, 3 sc in next ch, work­ing on op­po­site side of foun­da­tion ch, sk first ch, 2 sc in next ch, join in beg sc, fas­ten off. (6 sc) With black and us­ing photo as a guide, em­broi­der satin stitch

Left Fin

Row 1: With green, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (4 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Rows 3–6: Rep row 2. Row 7: Ch 1, sc dec in first 2 sts, sc in each of next 2 sts, turn. (3 sc) Row 8: Rep row 2. Row 9: Ch 1, sc dec in first 2 sts, sc in last st, turn. (2 sc) Row 10: Ch 1, sc dec in first 2 sts, turn. (1 sc) Rows 11 & 12: Rep row 2. At end of row 12, do not turn. Rnd 13: Now work­ing in rnds, sc evenly sp around en­tire Fin mak­ing sure to place 3 sc on each end of foun­da­tion ch, join in beg sc, leav­ing a 14-inch length of yarn, fas­ten off. Row 7: Ch 1, sc in each of first 2 sts, sc dec in last 2 sts, turn. (3 sc) Row 8: Rep row 2. Row 9: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc dec in last 2 sts, turn. (2 sc) Row 10–Rnd 13: Rep rows 10–rnd 13 of Left Fin.

Back Fins

Make 2. Rows 1–6: Rep rows 1–6 of Front Left Fin. Row 7: Ch 3, sl st in first st, (sl st, ch 3, sl st) in each st across, do not turn. (7 sl sts, 4 ch-3 sps)

Row 8: Sc evenly sp in ends of rows of first side, work­ing in op­po­site side of foun­da­tion ch, 3 sc in first ch, sc in each of next 2 chs, 3 sc in next ch, sc evenly sp in ends of rows of other side, leav­ing sts and sps of row 7 un­worked and a 14-inch length of yarn, fas­ten off.

What fun for the young-at-heart of all ages! Hide the gold­fish un­der one of the tur­tles in this age-old guess­ing game.
