Hooty Owl Key Chain

PATTERN NOTES Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Use colors in list consecutiv­ely for each round beginning with dark royal blue for round 1 and ending with very dark lavender for round 10. White is used for Eyes and medium orange spice for nose. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-3 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. OWL

BODY

Rnd 1 (RS): With first color

(see Pattern Notes), ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across to last ch, 3 sc in the last ch, working on opposite side of foundation ch, sc across to the last st, 2 sc in the last st, join

(see Pattern Notes) in beg sc. Fasten off. (18 sc)

Rnd 2: With next color, ch 1, 2 sc in the first st, sc in the next 6 sts, 2 sc in the next 3 sts, sc in the next 6 sts, 2 sc in the last 2 sts, join in beg sc. Fasten off. (24 sc)

Rnds 3–10: With next color, ch 1, sc around, join in beg sc. Fasten off.

At the end of rnd 10, leaving a length of floss, fasten off.

EYE Make 2.

Rnd 1: With white, ch 4, join to form a ring, ch 3 (see Pattern

Notes), 14 dc in ring, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3, leaving a length for sewing, fasten off. (15 dc) Sew a button to center of each Eye with black sewing thread and needle.

ASSEMBLY Sew Eyes to face of Owl and then stuff Body with fiberfill. Sew Owl Body closed. For nose, referring to photo and using sewing needle and orange

floss, weave floss in Owl’s face centered directly below the Eyes and between them into an arrow shape, as many times as needed to get a solid shape.

EAR

Cut 4 lengths of very dark lavender floss 31/2 inches long, fold lengths in half, insert crochet hook in top corner of the Owl Body, draw 4 lengths through body forming a lp, with hook, draw all 4 lengths through the lp, pull tightly to knot and secure. Rep for 2nd Ear on opposite edge. Cut the strands to the desired length. With very dark lavender, sew the key chain clip directly below right Ear.
