PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Chain-3 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Broomstick lace: [Insert hook in back lp of indicated st, draw up a lp, place lp over knitting needle] as indicated in pattern.

Double crochet cluster (dc

cl): [Yo, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 3 times, yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook, ch 2.

Quadruple treble (quad tr): Yo 5 times, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 6 times.

BODY

Row 1 (WS): Beg at bottom of Vest, ch 99 [105, 117, 141, 153, 165], sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across. (98 [104,

116, 140, 152, 164] sc)

Row 2: Working left to right, do not draw up lp in the last st created, broomstick lace (see

Special Stitches) in next st and in each st across to last st, sl st in last st of row (96 [102, 114, 138, 150, 162] lps on needle),

ch 6 (counts as first dc), * dc cl (see Special Stitches)] through next 3 lps on needle, rep from * across, ending with dtr (see

Stitch Guide) in last st of previous row (without lp).

Row 3: Do not draw up lp from the last st created, broomstick lace in next st and in each st across to last st, sl st in last st of row, ch 9 (counts as first quad

tr), *remove 6 lps from needle, insert hook through 2nd, 4th and 6th lps of group removed, pull lps high allowing rem 3 lps to disappear, remove hook, grab 3 tall lps and make 1 full twist, work 6 dc on twisted group of 3 lps; rep from * across, ending with quad tr (see Special

Stitches) in last st of previous

row (without lp). Row 4: Rep row 2, turn. Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each st and ch across, turn.

Row 6: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), [sk next st, dc in next st, dc in sk st] across, dc in last st.

Rows 7–16: [Rep rows 2–6 consecutiv­ely] twice. Row 17: Rep row 2. Row 18: Rep row 3.

FIRST FRONT

Row 19: Do not draw up lp in the last st created, broomstick lace in next 12 [12, 18, 24, 24, 30] sts, sl st in next st of row, leaving rem sts of row unworked, ch 6, *dc cl through next 3 lps on needle, rep from * across, ending with dtr in last st of previous row (without lp). Row 20: Rep row 5 of Body. Row 21: Rep row 6 of Body.

Rows 22–26: Rep rows 2–6

of Body.

Rows 27 & 28: Rep rows 2 and 3 of Body. Fasten off.

BACK

Row 19: On row 18 of Body, sk 11 [11, 11, 11, 17, 17] sts from the last st worked of row 19 of First Front (armhole), join (see

Pattern Notes) in next st, broomstick lace in this lp, broomstick lace in next 47 [53, 53, 66, 66, 66] lps, sl st in next st, ch 6, *dc cl through next 3 lps on needle, rep from * across, ending with

dtr in next st on row 18, leaving rem sts of row unworked. Row 20: Rep row 5 of Body. Row 21: Rep row 6 of Body.

Rows 22–26: Rep rows 2–6 of Body.

Rows 27 & 28: Rep rows 2 and 3 of Body. At the end of row 28, fasten off.

2ND FRONT

Row 19: On row 18 of Body, sk 11 [11, 11, 11, 17, 17] sts from the last st worked of row 18 of Body, join in next st, broomstick lace in next 12 [12, 18, 24, 24, 30] sts, sl st in last st, ch 6, *dc cl through next 3 lps on needle, rep from * across, dtr in next st on row 18. Row 20: Rep row 5 of Body. Row 21: Rep row 6 of Body.

Rows 22–26: Rep rows 2–6 of Body.

Rows 27 & 28: Rep rows 2 and 3 of Body. At the end of row 28, fasten off.

SHOULDER JOINING

Matching sts of row 28 of each Front to row 28 of Back, working in back lps only, whipstitch (see illustrati­on) shoulder seams closed.

TIE

Join in top edge of row 18 of Body, ch 50, sl st in back bar of ch (see illustrati­on) in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each rem ch across, join in edge of row 18. Fasten off. Rep Tie on opposite Front edge of row 18.
