• Lizbeth size 3 crochet cotton (120 yds per ball): 2 balls each #669 poppy red and #602 natural

• Size 5/1.90mm steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

• Starch

GAUGE

7 rows = 2 inches; 14 dc = 2 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Carry cotton not in use along back of piece. Chain-3 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

HOT PAD SIDE 1

Row 1: With red, ch 69, dc in 4th ch from hook (3 sk chs count as first dc), dc in each of next 6 chs, changing color (see

Stitch Guide) to natural in last st, with natural, [dc in each of next 3 chs, changing color to red in last st, dc in each of next 9 chs, changing color to natural in last st] 4 times, dc in each of next 3 chs, changing color to red in last st, dc in each of next 8 chs, turn. (67 dc) Note: Continue to change color in last step of last dc of red or natural. Row 2: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), dc in each of next 4 dc, [with natural, dc in each of next 3 dc, with red, dc in each of next 3 dc] 9 times, with natural, dc in each of next 3 dc, with red, dc in each of next 5 dc, turn. tern Notes) red in any corner, working through both thicknesse­s, ch 1, 3 sc in same st as beg ch-1, sc evenly sp across edge, [3 sc corner st, sc evenly sp across edge] 3 times, join in beg sc. Fasten off.
