• Plymouth Yarn Worsted Merino Superwash medium (worsted) weight wool yarn (31/2 oz/ 218 yds/100g per ball):

5 balls #0082 natural heather • Size I/9/5.5mm crochet hook or

size needed to obtain gauge • Stitch markers

GAUGE

21 dc = 6 inches Exact gauge is not important for this project.

PATTERN NOTES

Shawl is worked in Panels and crocheted together as work progresses. Leave 9-inch length at beginning and end of each row to be incorporat­ed into Fringe. Each row is worked with right side facing. Do not turn throughout. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Do not remove markers until instructed. Chain-3 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.

SHAWL PANEL 1

Row 1 (RS): Leaving a 9-inch length at beg for Fringe (see Pattern Notes), ch 243 loosely, working in back bar of ch (see illustrati­on), dc in 4th ch from hook (3 sk chs count as first dc), dc in next ch (3 dc made),

cross-st (see Special Stitch) in next 2 chs [dc in each of next 6 chs, cross-st in next 2 chs] 29 times, ending with dc in each of last 4 chs, ch 1 to lock, leaving a 9-inch length for Fringe. Fasten off. (30 cross-sts, 181 dc) Row 2 (RS): Leaving 9-inch length at beg of row, join (see Pattern Notes) in top of beg ch, ch 3

(see Pattern Notes), dc in next st, [hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st**, dc in each of next 3 sts] across, ending last rep at **, dc in each of last 2 sts, leaving a 9-inch length. Fasten off. Row 3: Working in back lp

Fasten off. Row 7: Leaving 9-inch length at beg of row, join in top of beg ch, ch 1, with RS of marked joining row of previous Panel facing and holding Panels side by side with yarn held beneath work, sl st from RS in first ch-3 sp of previous Panel, ch 1, sl st in first ch-1 sp of current Panel, *ch 2, sl st in next ch-5 sp of previous Panel, ch 2, on current Panel, sk next 2 ch sps, sl st in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sl st in next ch-3 sp of previous Panel, ch 1**, sl st in next ch-1 sp of current Panel, ch 1, sl st in next ch-3 sp of previous Panel, ch 1, sl st in next ch-1 sp of current Panel, rep from * across, ending last rep at **, sl st in last hdc of current Panel, remove joining row stitch marker.

FRINGE

Cut 3 strands each 18 inches long. Working evenly across each short end of Shawl, place Fringe incorporat­ing 1 or 2 adjacent rem 9-inch lengths of yarn. Place 1 Fringe on each lacy edge strip at corners, 2 on each solid strip and 2 on each internal lacy strip or as desired. Trim Fringe ends even. CW
