• Lizbeth size 10 crochet cotton (122 yds per ball): 1 ball each #602 natural, #616 daffodil med, #623 raspberry pink lt, #624 raspberry pink med, #625 plum med, #658 ocean turquoise lt and #669 poppy red • Size 7/1.65mm steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle • Bead needle • Sewing thread to match natural • Seed beads • Spray starch • Plastic wrap • Pinning board • Straight pins • Stitch marker • Gift or kraft bags: 2 • Removable adhesive • Cardstock in blue, white, dark

pink and light pink (optional) • Patterned paper in assorted colors (optional) • 5/8-inch-wide ivory crochet ribbon (optional) • Strand of self-adhesive pearls

GAUGE

9 dc = 1 inch

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Make 1 Heart each size of the following colors: raspberry pink light, raspberry pink medium and plum. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-4 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet and chain-1 unless otherwise stated. Do not join unless otherwise stated, place stitch marker and move as work progresses. Secure appliqués to purchased gift bags or follow directions for handmade gift bags.

FINISHING

Cover pinning board with plastic wrap, pin Hearts to pinning board, spray lightly with starch, allow to dry overnight. Remove from pinning board and secure as desired to purchased gift bag or make a gift bag with kraft bag as follows:

1. Cut a 5 x 8-inch piece of dark pink cardstock. Cut a 43/4 x 6-inch piece of pink polka-dot paper and a 43/4 x 2-inch piece of light pink cardstock.

2. Adhere paper to dark pink cardstock. Wrap a piece of 5/8- inch-wide ivory crochet ribbon around panel and adhere ends to back. Attach a row of self-adhesive pearls above ribbon.

3. Adhere panel to front of 51/4 x 81/4-inch kraft gift bag.

4. Stamp or write sentiment onto white cardstock, trim to desired size and adhere to light pink cardstock. Trim cardstock, leaving a narrow border around white cardstock, and adhere to panel.

5. With a removable adhesive, attach Hearts to panel.

CUPCAKE BAKE CUP

Row 1 (RS): With turquoise, ch 19, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in each of next 7 chs, sc in each of last 10 chs, turn. (8 hdc, 10 sc) Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, change color (see Stitch

Guide) in last sc to daffodil, drop turquoise, do not fasten off, turn. Row 3: Ch 1, hdc in each of first 8 sts, sc in each of last 10 sts, turn. Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, change color to turquoise in last sc, drop daffodil, do not fasten off, turn. Row 5: Ch 1, hdc in each of first 8 sts, sc in each of last 10 sts, turn.

Rows 6–17: [Rep rows 2–5 consecutiv­ely] 3 times.

Row 18: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 19: Sl st in each sc across. Fasten off.

Row 20: With RS facing, join turquoise in opposite side of foundation ch, sl st in each ch across. Fasten off.

FROSTING Bottom Layer

Note: Layers of Frosting are crocheted from bottom to top.

Rnd 1: With natural, ch 18, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 15 chs, 3 sc in last ch, working on opposite side of foundation ch, sk first ch, sc in each of next 15 chs, leave last ch unworked, do not join (see Pattern Notes). (36 sc)

Rnd 2: [2 sc in each of next 3 sc, sc in each of next 15 sc] twice, do not join. (42 sc)

Rnd 1: With red, ch 4, join in first ch to form a ring, ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), 20 dc in ring, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. Leaving a 8-inch length, fasten off.

ASSEMBLY

To assemble Frosting Layers, thread tapestry needle with rem length from Bottom layer. Working across 15 sc of top edge, position 2nd Layer opposite side of foundation ch on top of rem 15 sc of the Bottom Layer, work through both thicknesse­s, work running stitch (see illustrati­on) across sts, secure, fasten off. *Thread tapestry needle with rem length, hold next Layer foundation ch on top of previous Layer rem sc, and work running stitch through both thicknesse­s, secure, fasten off. Rep from * until all 5 Layers are sewn tog. Sew Cherry to center of Top Layer as shown. With WS of Bake Cup facing, position wider top edge of Bake Cup touching bottom edge of Bottom Layer, thread tapestry needle with length of natural and whipstitch edges (see illustrati­on) tog across top of Bake Cup. Thread bead needle with length of natural sewing thread. Sew seed beads on each layer of frosting as desired. Cover pinning board with plastic wrap, pin Cupcake to pinning board, spray lightly with starch, allow to dry overnight. Remove from pinning board and secure as desired to purchased gift bag or make a birthday gift bag from kraft bag as follows: 1. Cut a 5 x 8-inch piece of blue cardstock. Cut a 43/4 x 6-inch piece of yellow polka-dot paper and a 43/4 x 23/4-inch piece of striped paper. 2. Layer as desired and adhere papers to cardstock. Adhere to front of 51/4 x 81/4-inch kraft gift bag. 3. Stamp or write sentiment onto white cardstock and cut into desired shape. Adhere to bag with adhesive foam squares. 4. With a removable adhesive, attach Cupcake to bag. CW
