PATTERN NOTES

To track the count of the beginning chain, place a stitch marker at even intervals such as every 50th chain. Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

COLOR SEQUENCE

Rows 1 & 2: Café latte. Rows 3 & 4: Thyme. Rows 5 & 6: Buff. Rows 7 & 8: Teal. Rows 9 & 10: Sage. Rows 11–13: Blue. Rows 14 & 15: Sage. Rows 16 & 17: Teal. Rows 18 & 19: Buff. Rows 20 & 21: Thyme. Rows 22–63: [Rep rows 1–21 consecutiv­ely] twice. Rows 64 & 65: Café latte.

TUTORIAL SAMPLE SWATCH Step 1: Stitch the Base

Row 1 (RS): With buff, ch 32, sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, sk next ch, sc in each of next 3 chs,

ch 1, sk next ch, sc in next ch, rep from * across, turn. (21 sc, 10 ch-1 sps)

Rows 2–13: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in each of next 3 sc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in next sc, rep from * across. At end of last row, fasten off. (See Photo 1) Now is the only opportunit­y to measure for gauge. Sample swatch should measure 8 inches wide and 31/2 inches long.

Step 2: Weaving

Cut a 20-inch strand of blue and thread on needle; slide the needle to the center and hold with strand doubled. With RS facing, insert needle from front to back in first ch-1 sp, *pulling strand across WS of next group of 3 sc, insert needle from back to front in next ch-1 sp, pulling strand across RS of next sc, insert needle from front to back in next ch-1 sp, rep from * until 4-inch length of tails rem at beg edge. (See Photo 2) Gently pull 1 strand of beg tails to WS through first ch-1 sp. Tie tails tog in an overhand knot, securing knot against Base. (See Photo 3) Continue weaving across the row, gathering fabric as needed until 4 inches of weaving strand extends past other edge of Base. Cut doubled strand in half near eye of the needle. Gently pull 1 strand of end tails to WS through last ch-1 sp. Tie tails tog in an overhand knot, securing knot against Base. (See Photo 4) Rep Step 2 in each row of Base. Base fabric will continue to corrugate and draw in with each successive row. (See Photo 5)

RUG BASE

Row 1 (RS): With café latte, ch 548 (see Pattern Notes), sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, sk next ch, sc in each of next 3 chs, ch 1, sk next ch, sc in next ch, rep from * across, turn. (365 sc, 182 ch-1 sps) Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in each of next 3 sc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in next sc, rep from * across, changing color (see Stitch

Guide) in last sc to next color in Color Sequence, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in each of next 3 sc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in next sc, rep from * across, turn. Rows 4–65: [Rep rows 2 and 3 alternatel­y] 31 times, referring to Color Sequence for color changes. At end of last row, fasten off.

WEAVING

For each row, cut 84-inch strand of matching color. Following Step 2 of Tutorial, weave 42-inch double strand through each row of Rug.

FRINGE

For each Fringe, cut 2 9-inch strands of matching color. Fold strands in half. With WS facing, insert hook in ch-1 sp nearest end of row, pull folded end through, pull ends (including weaving yarn tails) through fold, pull ends to tighten knot. Rep to attach Fringe in end of each row. Trim ends evenly to desired length.
