• Universal Yarn Deluxe Worsted medium (worsted) weight wool yarn (31/2 oz/220 yds/100g per hank): 1 hank each #12294 real red

and #12172 dark crystal • Size I/9/5.5mm crochet hook or

size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle

GAUGE

8 hdc = 2 inches; 6 hdc rnds = 21/4 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Chain-2 at beginning of round counts as first half double crochet unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-3 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Beginning cluster (beg cl): Insert hook in horizontal back bar below front and back lp of indicated st, (ch 2, dc, hdc) in same st. Cluster (cl): Insert hook in horizontal back bar below front and back lp of indicated st, (hdc, dc, hdc) in same st. 3-treble crochet cluster (3-tr cl): *Yo twice, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, rep from * twice, yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook.

Back Bar of Half Double Crochet

Rnds 12 & 13: Rep rnd 11. At the end of rnd 13, change color to dark crystal.

Rnd 14: Working in back lps, [sc in each of next 7 sts, sc dec

(see Stitch Guide) in each of next 2 sts] 9 times, sc in each of next 2 sts, join in beg sc. (74 sts)

Rnd 15: Working in back lps, [sc in each of next 8 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts] 7 times, sc in each of next 4 sts, join in beg sc. (67 sts)

Rnd 16: Working in back lps, [sc in each of next 7 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts] 7 times, sc in each of next 4 sts, change color to real red, join in beg sc. (60 sts)

Brim

Rnd 23 (WS): Ch 3 (see Pattern

Notes), dc in each hdc around, change color to real red, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3, fasten off dark crystal.

Rnd 24: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join in beg ch-3. Fasten off. To form Brim, turn rnds 23 and 24 upward.

FLOWER

Rnd 1: With dark crystal, form a slip ring, ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.( 12 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each dc around, join in beg sc, leaving a 24-inch length, fasten off. (24 sc)

Rnd 3: Join real red in any sc of rnd 2, *ch 3, 3-tr cl (see Special

Stitches) in same st as beg ch-3, ch 4, sl st in same st as 3-tr cl, sc in each of next 2 sts, sl st in next st, rep from * around, join in beg sc at base of beg ch-3. (8 petals, 16 sc) Rnd 4: Ch 1, fpsc (see Stitch Guide) around sc of rnd 2, fpsc around each of next 23 sc, do not join. Rnd 5: Fpsc around each dc of rnd 1. Fasten off.

FINISHING

With rem length of rnd 2 of Flower, sew center of Flower to side of Hat over joining of rnds with Brim folded up under Flower, sew each Flower petal to Hat.
